The first white stuff has arrived!

Snow forecasters are sharpening their pencils and delving into computer modules. The first Sunday in October, a band of precipitation came through the Sierra, bringing our first dusting of the white stuff. Yes, it was minimal but oh, what a welcome sight, with snow levels reaching as low as 5000 ft in Reno. While temps are expected to rise again to the 50s and 60s in the upcoming week, it sure gave us a lovely look at what’s to come. What a perfect time to come explore all the fall beauty in Tahoe/Truckee! modules.

Lake Tahoe Marathon & Run Tahoe Events

October 6th-9th

Run the lake! This weekend, foot traffic takes to various roads and routes around Lake Tahoe, with some 20 running events of all distances and for all ages. From half to full, relay races to kids pumpkin run, there’s a race for everyone as well as SUP races, kayak contests and swim events. Come test your endurance among the fall colors! More

The Great Trail Race (Tahoe City to Truckee)

October 9th

A new tradition is born! Move your body for a great cause … the Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue fundraiser. The Great Trail Race follows roughly the same route as The Great Ski Race between Truckee and Tahoe City with one major difference: You choose to run or bike one of two course options: Classic, or the Elite course of more technically challenging terrain. Tips for Winter Snow Clearing

Fall means snow pole time! Waltman is wrapping up driveway sealing and getting ready to put snow poles in the ground, preparing for what we all hope to be a large winter.

Tips for winter snow clearing:

Be kind to your neighbors. Keep your driveway clear of objects to minimize breakdowns. A shovel or piece of firewood that causes damage can range from a 20-minute fix to terminating the machine for the day.
If you have cars in the driveway, move them around during storms. Park on one side of the driveway and then the other. This will allow plowing of the entire driveway and keep it clearer for you.
If you have an obstacle in the driveway that becomes buried by snow, make sure it is marked or staked.
