Snow Reports snow

After a few teaser spots of snow earlier this fall, the latest reports call for snow and cooler wetter weather this first weekend in November. Ski resorts are gearing up, and while nothing is guaranteed, the tentative opening dates are Boreal on November 9th; Squaw/Alpine, Heavenly and Northstar on November 17th; Kirkwood, Sugar Bowl and Sierra-at-Tahoe on Thanksgiving weekend; Donner Ski Ranch on December 2nd; Tahoe Donner and Homewood on December 8th; Soda Springs on December 9th; and Diamond Peak on December 14th.

And, yes, reports are true …. Mt. Rose got an early jump on things, making enough snow to open one run in late October, with hopeful plans to keep that up (especially in light of dropping temps this week).

Here are a few sites where you can get up-to-date snow reports in order to best plan your visit to our winter wonderland.

Passport to Dining, November 9th, 6-9 p.m.
Tahoe Biltmore, Crystal Bay

North Tahoe’s most flavorful fundraiser, Passport to Dining, benefits the North Tahoe Business Association. Features up to 35 tasting stations including restaurants, caterers, breweries and wineries as well as a raffle and a silent auction that features Northern California Getaway Packages and many valuable items. NTBA will donate a portion of the net proceeds to Project MANA. Advance tickets are $40; guests 21+ years of age with valid ID. Limited day-of-event tickets are $50. More

Downtown Truckee Holiday Lighting Festival
November 17th, 4:15-6 p.m.

A downtown Truckee tradition for over 35 years, local children decorate trees to adorn the streets through the holidays. Cookies, hot cocoa and a visit from Santa as well as the lighting of the traditional Bud Fish Tree along with the rest of historic downtown Truckee. It’s a sight to see for the holidays! More

Gingerbread Village Unveiling & Tree Lighting
November 24th, 5-8 p.m., Resort at Squaw Creek
